We’ve only had eyes for Aberdeen Angus since 2007

Sam picked up his first six cows way back in 2007 – the very start of the ‘Malgraves Herd’. In classic Sam style, he had to borrow a truck and trailer to bring them home in (which broke down on the way!) and once back at the farm Sam had just three months to organise Summer grazing. Who’d have thought he’d go from having no where to put them to converting the entire farm to pasture!

The six Aberdeen Angus cattle were collected from Angus Stovold in Surrey, a reputable Angus breeder. Bulls were then hired over the Summer to produce calves for the following Spring.

Sam chose the native Aberdeen Angus breed for many reasons. They’re a hardy breed with unbeatable maternal attributes and good fertility. They have a wonderful nature and, more importantly, no horns!! There’s a reason why Aberdeen Angus beef is one of the leading beef brands, it has exceptional eating qualities, a great texture and a beautiful marbling of fat throughout.

We now have around 40 cattle, our own bull called Prince and plenty of wonderful food to feed them from the farm itself. We’re still a fairly small set up in the beef world but that’s what makes us able to rear the cattle the way we do, sustainably and in harmony with nature.

Gone are the days of borrowing trucks and trailers, make-shift pens from straw bales and ringing around for grazing! We just love seeing the cattle grazing the land around the farm and witnessing the farm come to life since planting the Herbal Ley – read more on why we chose a Herbal Ley for our pasture here.
